Find out what your silver actually is.

The hardest part of selling silver is knowing what you have. A tray that looks solid may be plated, a drawer of old flatware may be sterling, and the difference between the two is the difference between scrap value and real money. The Gold ATM tests every piece in front of you, free, at either of our private Atlanta offices: Wildwood in Cobb County and Buckhead at Lenox.

Bring silver jewelry, coins, bullion, flatware, trays, tea services, candelabras or a box of things you were never sure about. We will sort it, test it, weigh it, and explain how each piece was priced before you decide anything. If you would rather keep it, ask about a secured loan instead.

The honest answer

How much is my silver worth?

Most silver is priced on two things: how much pure silver is actually in the piece, and how much it weighs. The stamp on the underside tells us the first. A scale tells us the second. Antique, maker marked and collectible pieces can be worth more than their metal content, so those are appraised on their own rather than by weight.

.925

Sterling silver

The standard for flatware, hollowware and jewelry. Stamped 925, Sterling or Ster.

.999

Fine silver

Bullion bars, rounds and American Eagles. The highest purity you will normally bring in.

.900

Coin silver

US coins minted through 1964, plus older American coin silver pieces.

.958

Britannia

A higher British standard found on imported and antique English silver.

EPNS

Silver plate

A thin silver layer over base metal. Marked EPNS, Silver on Copper or Quadruple Plate.

No stamp, or a mark you cannot read? Bring it anyway. Testing is free and takes minutes, and plenty of genuine sterling carries only a maker's mark.

Before you come in

Do not polish your silver.

You do not need to clean, polish or refinish anything before your appointment. Bring it exactly as it is, tarnish and all. Tarnish does not reduce what we pay.

Polishing at home can actually work against you. Aggressive cleaning removes a thin layer of metal every time, and on antique or maker marked pieces it can wear down the hallmarks and patina that make them worth more than their weight. We clean your pieces for you as part of the evaluation.

Good questions

Selling your silver, answered.

Where can I sell silver near me in Atlanta?

You can sell silver in person at either of our Atlanta offices, Wildwood in Cobb County or Buckhead at Lenox. Both are private, secure high rise offices, and both test and evaluate silver at no charge. Book online or call and you can often be seen the same day. Walk ins are welcome during business hours.

How do I know if my silver is real or just plated?

Start by looking for a stamp. Sterling is usually marked 925, Sterling or Ster, while plate is often marked EPNS, Silver on Copper or Quadruple Plate. Plenty of genuine silver carries only a maker's mark, though, and plate can be stamped in ways that look convincing. Bring it in and we will test it for free and show you the result.

Do I need to clean or polish my silver first?

No. Bring everything exactly as it is. Tarnish does not reduce what we pay, and polishing at home removes a little metal each time, which can wear down hallmarks and patina on antique pieces. We clean your silver for you during the evaluation.

How much is my silver worth?

For most pieces it comes down to purity and weight, priced against the live silver market on the day you come in. Antique, maker marked and collectible items are appraised separately, because they are often worth more than their metal content. We show you the hallmark, the weight and the market behind your number.

Do you buy silver coins and bullion?

Yes. We buy US coins minted through 1964, American Silver Eagles, foreign silver coinage, and bullion bars and rounds from any mint. Quantity is not an issue in either direction, from a single coin to a full collection.

Will you buy an incomplete set of flatware?

Yes. Odd pieces, mismatched patterns and partial services are all welcome, and so are broken or damaged items. A complete set in a recognized pattern can be worth more than its weight, so it is worth bringing everything you have rather than sorting it yourself.

What is the difference between selling my silver and taking a loan against it?

Selling means you hand over the pieces and walk out with cash for good. A loan means your silver is held as secure, insured collateral for a short term cash advance and returned once the loan is repaid, so you keep ownership. You can read the terms on our secured loan page, or ask us to walk you through both at the appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring the silver, any paperwork or appraisals you have, and a valid driver's license for identification. There is no need to sort, clean or box anything up first. If you accept an offer, you are paid immediately.
